Well Done Y6 Football Team!

This year our Y6 boys entered a team into the Everton FC sponsored soccer tournament. The competition started at Maghull High School on Friday 12th February 2010 and successful teams would eventually be given the opportunity of playing at Goodison Park later on in the year.

The Y6 team beat some fierce opposition at Maghull High and came a creditable joint second. This meant that the boys progressed to the next round at Everton FC’s high tech training facility at Finch Farm, Halewood.

On Wednesday 3rd March 2010, the boys once again acquitted themselves with distinction at Finch Farm. They won the first four games in a convincing manner, drew one and unfortunately lost the last match. It was a very close fought tournament with only the winners of each league going through to the finals at Goodison. Green Park were pipped into second place by King David school from Childwall. Coincidentally our boys had beaten King David 2-1 in one of the earlier games.

The team consisted of: Ryan C, Antony, Sam F, Josh, Sam L, Oscar, James, Cameron, Billy and Tom.

Well done boys. You can all be proud of yourselves for what you have achieved.

A big thank you also to those parents who were able to assist with transport to both venues. Without such generosity the school would have been unable to enter the tournament.

Fabulous Friday

We did lots of work in the morning. We looked at our playscripts and even acted some out. (very funny!) Our next writing task is a recount. We witnessed an accident and have to complete a report form for the police. This homework is for Tuesday. Remember you can use the form, paper or computer but remember to put it back in the plastic wallet with your planning sheet.

We then had Golden Time – James came in and did football, some of us played rounders and some did art & computers.
We had a great time playing our own version of rounders although it was very tiring. I wasn’t too happy as I didn’t score a rounder however I’m sure my partner Ryan C did. Well done to the group who played with me you worked well together. I’m going to put a SEAL nomination in for you all (if you remind me!)
We finished the day doing spanish with Freddy. Adios.

Not long to go now. Everyone is getting really excited and I’ve been busy buying some goodies to take.
I’ve got a funny feeling it’ll be a struggle getting a lot of work done this week.
We’ll also be looking at rooms and groups. The activity timetable will also be going home.
I hope you’ve all got your hats, gloves & layers ready to stay warm. The footballers were telling me about their warm tops perhaps I’ll have to get one.

We were late selecting our winner this week so Jessica H is keeping a trophy until next Friday. Congratulations Jess on winning – you had a lot of nominations. I think the winning slip was for reading – it could have been for being helpful.
We did have a laugh in class though as a certain young man desperately wanted to win and kept asking for another slip to be pulled from our box. Unfortunately his nomination slip wasn’t the winner this time. Lots of the class are receiving nominations for great achievements and should be proud of themselves but ……. there can only be one winner. Perhaps we’ll do some special awards.

We actually did our next winner on time. Freddy was asked to pick a slip out – it was Rebecca M. Well done, Becky you’re a great help in the classroom and are always polite and ready to work hard.

Congratulations to both winners.

Wednesday – Wonderful or Woeful?

Our football team went off to play at Finch Farm this afternoon to see if they could make it to the Finals at Goodison. So what happened? You’ll just have to watch this space for our match report. It’s coming soon!!!!!

The rest of us did some painting or continued with our board games before going into the hall to learn some new songs for Easter. We enjoyed singing them.

Equality & Diversity Workshop

Peter Yip & Ann Kelly work as Co-ordinators for Sefton and are visiting schools to discuss equality & diversity with pupils. This morning they spent a session with Year 6.

The children enjoyed finding out new facts and discussing situations. We also played a game and had a quiz. Well done to James & Ryan H who were awarded prizes.
We also came up with some ideas for a short poem. Considering the class had about 5 – 10 minutes to do this task we were very impressed. Unfortunately, all their ideas were taken away as some could be chosen to be published in a book of poems being produced by Sefton.

Working Hard

Since we’ve been back we’ve been working hard and have also completed some tests to help us prepare for our SATs in May. We’ve also had some fun and have been thinking about our holiday at Kingswood – not long now!!!

Our dance is coming along well – we’re enjoying the section involving chopping movements. Only one more part to add and then we’ll be all finished.

We’ve also been really busy making board games to be taken to Turkey. We’ve got some great ideas but they have to be able to go on the computer so Mrs Shotton can put them on a disk. We’ve had a few disasters but things are starting to come together. I’m sure we’ll do it!

February Half-term

Hope you all enjoy your break. If you spread your homework out it could be easier.
Reminder – Reading Paper
Maths A Paper
Regular reading

The homework should be in on the first Monday but I’m giving you until the Wednesday for the papers, if you need it. Bring your log book in at least.
Don’t try to leave your work until the last minute.
Remember the papers cover a wide range of ability so there will probably be questions you cannot do or find very difficult. You are allowed some help – this isn’t a test – don’t panic just do your best.

See you soon. Have a great break!!!
