Year 6 - Star of the Week
This week’s winner of the Rory Award is Liam T. congratulations on being nominated for good Literacy work this week.
Liam’s Poem
Mrs Robert’s and I really enjoyed reading this entry in Liam T’s journal. We’re sure you’ll enjoy it.
My name is Liam Taylor
my dream is to be a sailor.
I am 10 years old
and my dad is bold.
I have one brother called Sam
his favourite sandwich is jam.
I have one sister called Jess
she is just like a cute princess.
I have two dogs called Megan and Kane
they are both very insane.
Also I have a hamster called Max
he is as small as ear wax.
I want to be a football star
or drive a racing car
if all else fails
i’ll be French and eat snails.
This is the end of my poem
because I’ve got to stop my Nan sewing
because the scarf is as long as an house
when it was a only meant for a mouse.
Rory Award
Well done to Anthony for winning our award this week. His nomination was for some topic work on Egypt. Congratulations!!
I was also pleased as a number of children had received nominations for being helpful to other members of staff as well as myself.
Let’s see if everyone can receive a nomination next week.
The Highwayman
This week we’ve read and discussed the poem ‘The Highwayman’. We have written a personal response, told part of the story from a character’s point of view, had a Hot Seat session and started some artwork based on this classic poem. All of the class were involved in a reading of the poem and we were impressed by their presentation especially as there was some difficult vocabulary involved. Here is some of the work - more to follow as it is typed up.
The Highwayman From Bess’s Point of View
When the soldiers came marching in I felt scared as I knew what they were about to do. They tied me up and placed a gun facing me. I stood up and walked to the window. I watched for my love in the moonlight then I heard him. I knew he was going into a trap. So I shot myself and then he got shot, I was so upset. We are both in heaven now and we are still happy.

Bess’s Point of View by Patrick W
I was in a panic and I wanted to save my
love. So the only way was to get my hand
on the trigger so I would shoot myself and
warn The highwayman.
So I took a deep breath…BANG!
I shot myself so I warned him.
………………………………………….
The Highwayman (the end of the story)
I heard the gunshot and headed westwards. Next day after I heard that it was Bess that shot the gun, I was sad and knew it was a warning. I didn’t care about the warning. So I angrily charged at the stunned guards as I burst through the bushes …Then bang the bullet went through my head and I fell down dead.

Homework is for next Wednesday. You have to do the multiplying of decimals sheet. You can put your answers on the sheet or in your homework book. Division side can be left.

Have a good weekend. Miss Gx
Don’t forget Football on Monday. You need your games kit.
Year 6 Awards
We are considering changing the name of the Year 6 Award but at present it is still the Rory Award. (This was due to links to Haven where Y6 used to have their school holiday.) Pupils can be nominated by any adult in school for a variety of reasons.
We also have an ongoing merit score with certificates awarded. Some of the class are very close already to getting their 1st certificate for 10 merits.
Our first Rory Award winner is Bronte. Her nomination was for the good use of connectives in her journal. Congratulations, Bronte.
Well done to all of the children who received nominations this week. .
